Blood sugar friendly oatmeal with Co-Founder of Oat of Ordinary Chara

Oatmeal is one of my favorite things to eat for breakfast. Fun fact: I used to be allergic to oats when I was little. But I learned that I had outgrown my allergy when my cousin told me to try strawberries and cream oatmeal. I fell in love. Did I mention, I thought I was allergic to oatmeal? So I ate all kinds of oat cereals not realizing that I had outgrown my allergy for quite some time

When I was diagnosed, all cereals, porridges, grits, and of course, oatmeal seemed to be completely out of reach. There are too many carbs. If it’s got fruit it’s too much sugar. Instant oatmeal didn’t keep me full unless I was eating 2 packets at a time. It was a vicious cycle. It was almost like I had to pretend I was allergic to it all over again.

But co-founders and friends Vanessa and Chara have different plans. They created Oat of the Ordinary to provide a healthy nutritious breakfast without the blood sugar spikes or crashes. with 11 grams of protein and only 3-4 grams of sugar, they’ve created easy-to-go oatmeal that’s good for anyone including those living with diabetes like me.

How to stay motivated when treating your diabetes

If you’re someone living with diabetes you understand that motivation can be fleeting. Sometimes we want to take a day off from diabetes. It’s not something that we can do. This can lead to burnout quickly if we don’t have things in place to keep us on track as best as we can.

So today I want to touch on ways that I’ve stayed motivated while also showing myself self compassion on days when it’s hard.

KEY POINTS

  • Have a support system
  • Self care even if it’s laying in the bed all day
  • Be flexible and willing to adapt

Join the community! The Diabetes App with Co-Founder & COO Taylor Companion

One thing that has been a key for me in managing my diabetes in a way that’s best for me, is engaging with other diabetics. When I first started Healing In Hindsight I couldn’t find anyone. But now that’s all changed. The Diabetic community has made itself known.

Apps like The Diabetes App has made it even easier to connect with others and learn from a. community of your peers. I never knew about going to an endocrinologist or getting a CGM until I started interacting with other diabetics. I’ve learned so much in the past year alone and you can join too! I sit down with co-founder and COO Taylor to learn more about why they created this space just for us.

KEY POINTS

  • Creating the app
  • Growing the community

4 diabetes beliefs that work against you

Negative thoughts and beliefs can impact your diabetes treatment 🤯

How you administer it. How you make choices. Even how you view diabetes. Often times these 4 common beliefs come from outside sources. When these thoughts run rampant they can cause extreme damage.

In this weeks Hindsight thoughts podcast episode, I talk about how you can adjust negative beliefs to positive ones that don’t cause extreme changes or sacrifice. I personally have experienced these particular 4. I’ve seen how they’ve hurt me and others in the community.

My hope is that you’ll be able to combat these beliefs that have nothing to do with yourself, diagnosis, or treatment.

KEY POINTS

  • FALSE: Being a diabetic means that you can’t enjoy things.
  • FALSE: Losing weight is the answer to everything.
  • FALSE: Being on medication is a bad thing.
  • FALSE: You caused your diabetes.
